Keychain Collectors International started through the efforts of Mark Peper.  A collector himself, he
decided to seek out other collectors through a search  function on AOL.  This brought him to Eric
Edwards.  The two joined forces, spread the word, and thanks to their efforts in 1998, the organization was born.

Originally named Network of Americans Collecting Keychains (N.A.C.K.), the name was changed to Network of Anyone Collecting Keychains  (N.A.C.K.) once the organization obtained its first
non-American member.  In 2004, the  organization changed the name to Keychain Collectors
International, feeling this better represented the focus of the organization.  At this time  it was also decided to create officer positions.  The first officers were appointed.  The first officer elections were held in 2006.

Conventions are held on a bi-annual basis.  The first convention was held in March 2000, hosted by Mark Peper.  The success of this gathering solidified the organization.  Conventions are held on
even-numbered years.  Plans are in the works to host regional events in the odd-numbered years and the goal is to hold a true International Convention outside the USA.

Continuing to evolve and change, the organization has big plans for the future.
