My name is Wolfgang Engel and I live in Oberasbach, near Nuernberg, in the southern part of Germany. My sons and I have been collecting keychains for more than 30 years. In this time our collection has grown up to more than 18.000 keyrings from the whole world. I am also a member of Keychain Collectors International and in the last two years have traded with Nevin, Rhonda and Paul.
Today I like to write about an advertising keychain that was going around the world. In the 1980 the Lloyd boot factory in Bremen was creating - together with a production company in Spain - an advertising idea for the excellent Lloyd shoes - Made in Germany. This interesting keychain consists of: - an typical Lloyd shoe with the name and sign on the sole, - some parts of a chain, - an oval plate with a stamped name and - a fastener with a screw.
This is a typical shoe from the Lloyd boot factory.
I got my first shoe key ring from a manager, who bought a pair of shoes in Munich. Some days later I found the same keychain with an other name on the plate in a boot shop in Nuernberg. Than I understood that the name on the plate is always the shop owner. This little key chain was a nice idea to advertise a product and the reseller of these shoes.
I was curious to know more about these keychains and wrote to the Lloyd boot factory. I got an answer with some new keychains and different plates. They wrote me that this is a special action for first class shoe shops on five continents who are selling these Lloyd shoes. And within 5 years more than 2500 shops in the whole world participated in this campaign. I believe this is one of the most widespread advertising keychain sets in the world.
It would be nice if every member of the keychain collector group could write some interesting things about his or her collection and perhaps even show some interesting pictures of their keychains.

My first Lloyd key ring was from the shoe shop (reseller) Edwin Meier in Munich - and some days later I found the piece from the shoe shop Hagler in Nuernberg.
Here you can see the plates with the stamped names of the resellers.
